To mark the occasion, we have introduced a "50 year logo" (below, and on our homepage banner). Feel free to use it in any fitting context to celebrate our Society. Read about our Society's history here, and stay tuned for more!  ________________________________________ General News New Appointments We are delighted to announce two new appointments. Corina Constantinescu (University of Liverpool, United Kingdom) is the new Publicity Secretary, taking over from Leonardo T. Rolla since January 2024. Eva Loecherbach (University Paris 1, France) will be the new Chief Editor for SPA. She will succeed Matthias Loewe, and her term will commence at the end of March 2024. We extend our sincere gratitude to Leonardo T. Rolla and Matthias Loewe for their dedicated service over the past years. David G. Kendall Award for Young Researchers – Recipient The winner of the 2024 David G. Kendall Award for Young Researchers is Qiyang Han (Rutgers University, USA). The biannual award is presented jointly by the Royal Statistical Society and the Bernoulli Society to a young researcher that has made a significant contribution to the alternating fields of mathematical statistics or probability theory. David G. Kendall (1918–2007) was the first president of the Bernoulli Society and recipient of the RSS Guy Medal in Silver (1955) and in Gold (1981). Wolfgang Doeblin Prize – Call for Nominations The Bernoulli Society welcomes nominations for the 2024 Wolfgang Doeblin Prize. The Wolfgang Doeblin Prize, which was founded in 2011 and is generously sponsored by Springer, is awarded biannually to a single individual who is in the beginning of his or her mathematical career, for outstanding research in the field of probability theory. Willem van Zwet Medal – Call for Nominations Nominations are open for the third award of the Bernoulli Society's Willem van Zwet medal. This medal is awarded for special service to the Bernoulli Society. The first and second awards were made in 2021 to Maria Eulalia Vares and in 2023 to Tomas Mikosch. Call for Photographs and Video Footage As the Bernoulli Society approaches its 50th year of existence, we are launching an effort to collect and archive photographs and video footage related to the society — whether from the distant or more recent past. Sad News It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of Professor Alan G. Hawkes. He passed away peacefully on November 9th, 2023. The Bernoulli Society extends its sincere condolences to his family. ________________________________________ Events Sponsored and Co-Sponsored by Bernoulli Society 42nd Finnish Summer School on Probability and Statistics May 27–31, 2024 The Finnish Doctoral Education Network in Stochastics and Statistics (FDNSS), in co-sponsorship with the Bernoulli Society, invites doctoral students in probability, statistics, and related areas, to attend one-week intensive courses on active research topics in probability and statistics, lectured by leading scholars in the field. Advanced MSc students, fresh postdocs and everyone in the research and applied field are welcome too. The registration will be open in spring 2024. Ole E. Barndorff-Nielsen Memorial Conference May 29–31, 2024 We are happy to share the announcement of the Ole E. Barndorff-Nielsen Memorial Conference, taking place at the Department of Mathematics, Aarhus University, Denmark. The aim of the conference is to cover many of the numerous fields of science that Ole E. Barndorff-Nielsen contributed to and to address recent research developments in these fields. BS-IMS World Congress Pre-Meeting for Young Researchers 2024 August 10–11, 2024 We are happy to announce the upcoming Bernoulli-IMS World Congress Pre-Meeting for Young Researchers 2024! It will take place in August 2024 on the campus of University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany. Among others, the pre-meeting features lectures by Emmanuel Candès (Stanford University) on conformal inference and Remco van der Hofstad (TU Eindhoven) on networks, and offers sessions with career advice for young researchers. Scholarships for participants from low/middle income countries are available. BS-IMS 11th World Congress in Probability and Statistics August 12–16, 2024 The Bernoulli-IMS 11th World Congress in Probability and Statistics will take place in August 2024 on the campus of Ruhr University Bochum, Germany. Held every four years, the Congress is a worldwide event covering all branches of statistics and probability. This includes theoretical, methodological, applied and computational statistics and probability, as well as stochastic processes. The latest scientific developments in all of these fields are showcased. BIRS Workshop on Causal Inference and Prediction for Network Data August 18–23, 2024 The Banff International Research Station will host the Causal Inference and Prediction for Network Data workshop in Banff, Canada, in co-sponsorship with the Bernoulli Society, through its Committee on Statistical Network Science. The workshop will bring researchers from theory, computation, and different applications together, to help theoreticians and methodologists focus on real problems, and to alert application researchers to the newest developments in methods. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. 65th ISI World Statistics Congress 2025 July 13–17, 2025 The ISI World Statistics Congress 2025 will be held in July 2025 in The Hague, Netherlands. It takes place every two years, since 1887, and it represents the leading congress on statistics and data science worldwide. We strongly encourage members of the Bernoulli Society to propose invited paper sessions (IPSs) for the congress. The submission deadline for IPSs is March 15th, 2024. More details are available here. Please keep EDI considerations in mind when planning your session. ________________________________________ Job Offers Call for Expression of Interest - LUISS Guido Carli The Department of Economics and Finance at LUISS Guido Carli in Rome invites outstanding scholars to express their interest for a full-time position as Assistant/Associate Professor of Statistics. Ideal candidates should have research experience in Statistics and Data Science and intend to pursue research projects in the field, with a focus on: Statistical Learning, Analysis of Complex and Big Data, Interaction between Optimization and Statistics.
