GENERAL NEWS * Bernoulli Society General Assembly in Toronto The Bernoulli Society General Assembly will meet during the 9th World Congress of Probability and Statistics, on Tuesday July 12, at 12:45-13:45, in the Medical Sciences Auditorium, Toronto. Lunch will not to be provided. The Bernoulli Council, composed by the current Council Members and the Executive Committee, will meet on Monday July 11, 12:45-13:45 in Room 210 of the Fields Institute. * ALEA now a co-sponsored publication by the Bernoulli Society ALEA, the Latin American Journal of Probability and Mathematical Statistics, publishes research articles in probability theory, stochastic processes, mathematical statistics, and their applications. It publishes also review articles of subjects which developed considerably in recent years. All articles submitted go through a rigorous refereeing process by peers and are published immediately after accepted. It is an electronic journal which provides open access to all of its content. Held every four years, it is a worldwide event covering all branches of statistics and probability. This includes theoretical, methodological, applied and computational statistics and probability, as well as stochastic processes. The latest scientific developments in all of these fields are showcased. It is organized under the auspices of the Bernoulli Society for Mathematical Statistics and Probability and the Latin-American Society on Probability and Mathematical Statistics. The series of CLAPEMs has greatly contributed to the development of probability and statistics in Latin America by promoting regional cooperation, increasing the scholarly level of the research work in the region, facilitating the collaboration between Latin American researchers and colleagues from the rest of the world. This year the Danish Society for Theoretical Statistics is organizing the meeting at the North Campus of University of Copenhagen. The invited sessions cover statistical theory and methodology, probability theory and applications to e.g. city planning, demography and forensics. All participants are encouraged to contribute to the poster session with preceding flash talks. Strong international participation has been both a major cause and a positive consequence of these developments.
